Better to go to 1.4.3 really. Upload all the 1.4.3 files, apart from ./inc/config.php and ./inc/settings.php (keep your current one), go to ./install/upgrade.php and choose 1.2.6 from the list.

Can't I just ad an MyBB 121 instal folder to my 126 forum?
Mybe that will solve the problem?

No you'll need the latest one to upgrade, i.e. the one that came with the version you are upgrading to.

Do I need the instal folder to upgrade to a newer version or can I just instal the whole MyBB 143 version and proceed with the installation?

Yeah you need the /install/ folder. If you run the installation script you'll overwrite your database, so just run the upgrade script.
